A few nights ago on the 20th February 2009, the annual Sarawak Hornbill Award was held at the Riverside Majestic's Sarawak Chamber function hall. It is an event where the Sarawak Tourism Board together with the state tourism ministry pay tribute and award various individuals, government and non-government organisation and private companies for their contributions towards promoting and enchancing Sarawak as a tourist destination.
The dinner was a grand and formal event, men dressed in suit and tie, ladies in evening gowns and the ballroom was decorated with black and yellow ribbons, balloons and flowers. The award cum dinner night was graced with the presence of the Sarawak Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud and other minnisters and VIPs. As guest indulge in the 'looks tasty only but taste like sh*t' food being served they were accompanied by music and performance by the St. Joseph school marching band.
Of course the main event, the awards presentation ensued. Many were given out for outstanding in this and in that but the most notable was the award for the cleaness public toilet which was awarded to the Sibu Municipal Council. Now, how many have actually visited the public restrooms in Sibu. I personally have not been there for quite sometime but friends that frequent the town on business trips have told me of the public amenities there. So the horrifying fact now is that if it is as bad as they descripted then the other public restrooms in other towns and cities in the state must be frightful.
The embarassing fact would be the thought that the public toilets in the capitol city of kuching is beyond mentioning till they can't even beat Sibu's. I am sure that those that have patronised the public restrooms here knows what I'm talking about. How many times have we when answering the call of nature and had to use one of these toilets have hurriedly walked in, hold their breaths, focus on the relieving job at hand and just high tail out of there as soon as possible even without bothering to wash one's hands. I joke you not, the experience is just traumatic.
Having two municipal councils here in Kuching, namely MBKS and DBKU, is as good as having none. What have us taxpayer's money budgeted to these councils gone too??? What is the purpose of the entrance fee paid to use these restroom used for if not for the maintenance of it??? Those toilet attendances and cleaners that earn salary from the council are there for what purpose if not to keep the cleanliness of the restrooms in check???
Millions of Ringgit every year is budgeted and invested into the tourism sector and it would be a shame if the conditions of these public toilet becomes the turn off factor. I do hope that the municipal council officers that were present during the dinner would take to heart and put in some effort to improve the conditions of these said restrooms. However, until they do I refuse to pay for the entrance fee of 20 sens that they are charging because frankly they just don't bloody deserve it.
Oh ya, another traumatising thing about that night was the emcee of the event. A very well dress and decent looking lady I must say. Her english sounded good all but all until she pronounced ensemble and yachting. She was by no means even near. For such an elegant and obviously money wasting function, why oh why did the organisers had to get such an English ignorant emcee. Guess after all the budget that was allocated for the dinner went into the decorations and pockets of some, they just didn't have enough left to get a proper English speaking emcee.

Najis in Kuching
No wonder there is a sudden stench around the cat city. Literally Kuching pooped and out came Najis. For the next 3 days Kuching will reek of shit as the incoming Prime Minister is here for an official visit.
Najib will meet with Sarawak Barisan Nasional leaders at the Hilton Hotel, Kuching at 9am tomorrow before attending the investiture ceremony in conjunction with the 45th anniversary celebration of Sarawak's Progress in Malaysia at the Astana Banquet Hall in Petra Jaya at 11.30am, with Sarawak Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Abang Muhammad Salahuddin Abang Barieng conferring the awards.
In the afternoon, Najib will hand over financial aid under the 2009 National Economy Stimulus Package to government-assisted mission schools of Sarawak and Sabah at the James Wong Kim Min Hall, SMK St. Thomas, Kuching and attend a function with the Bidayuh community at the Dayak Bidayuh Nasional Association headquarters in Jalan Kumpang, off Jalan Ong Tiang Swee, here.
Tomorrow night, the deputy prime minister will close the Islamic Congress organised by the Sarawak Islamic Religious Department at the Riverside Majestic Hotel.
Najib will visit Miri on Friday where he will hand over welfare aid to natural disaster victims at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Niah in the morning, and in the evening he will also hand over welfare aid to disaster victims at the Malaysian Red Crescent Society's Miri branch premises before returning to Kuala Lumpur.
Well, to sum it all up in simple and true words, Najis is here to collect dues. Wonder how much more richer is he going to be when he leaves???

Barred MP's application to sue the Sarawak Government thrown out
Padang Serai's MP N. Gobalakrishnan's application to sue the Sarawak Government for refusing his entry into the state December last year was thrown out by the court. Judicial Commissioner Rodzariah Bujang in dismissing the application, ruled that the Immigration Act did not allow for such review by any court unless procedural requirements had been breached.
The Sarawak Government without any reason whatsoever in denying a person with valid travel documents entry is not a breach then what is?!! By saying that the "Immigration Act did not allow for such review by any court" implies that the Immigration Act is above all constitutional and human rights and also even the law.
The Judicial Commissioner should have just said that in Sarawak the BN Government is the law and she doesn't have the balls (Yeah, I know she literally doesn't have any) to rule against them. Probably that truth would have been easier for the MP and us to accept and digest.

Barred MP to sue Sarawak Government
Padang Serai MP N. Gobalakrishnan is challenging the Sarawak Immigration Department on barring him entry into the state in December last year. He named the Immigration Director of Sarawak as the first respondent, Sarawak State Secretary and the Sarawak State Government as the second and third respondents respectively.
Gobalakrishnan was served with a notice of refusal entry upon his arrival at the Kuching International Airport on Christmas eve last year. He was understood to have planned to spend Christmas with his adopted Iban parents in Kapit. The MP took the next available flight out after his entry was denied. Reasons given to him was that he was not a Sarawakian and therefore needed a permit to enter the state.
Gobalakrishnan was in the state for holidays and not for official duties neither was he a criminal nor a terrorist so what permit does this Malaysian needs other than his valid passport like other non Sarawakian Malaysians. Inline with the Constitution of Malaysia, Sarawak was granted independent rule and law over its immigration but this refusal of entry is just a blatant abuse of power and should be punished accordingly.

Joke of the day...
"Barisan Nasional (BN) leaders are not into 'big talk' because they are always busy serving for the betterment of the people." -Sarawak Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud (Borneo Post 26.08.2008)
"Busy serving for the betterment of the people", err...hello...?? If BN did such a great job I don't think their representatives would have gotten their asses whooped so convincingly in the last state election.
"This is the first time in our politics that we see a new brand of politics which tries to be very populist, with a lot of talk but performance is probably waiting for test. The people should realise that big talk is part of politics but in the case of BN, the big talk is in the background because they are so busy performing." -Sarawak Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud (Borneo Post 26.08.2008)
Hahaha!!!
Funniest statement so far. "New brand of politics which tries to bo very populist with lotsof talk", hell, isn't that politicians at their best.
"In the case of BN, the big talk is in the background because they are so busy performing". He is actually right I must say. BN is always hard at work in the background, doing what you might ask...chiak lui la...what else!!! That is why we can't see what goes on in the background cause we've got no transparency in our government and what we can see in the fore ground is no development or betterment. That's why BN lost the Kuching constituency with eggs in their face along with some old school, big momma style SPANKING!!!
Tell me which politicians can keep their trap from over shooting and say something ignorantly funny and stupid. With the kind of statement uttered as above, I think I can rest my case.
He then urged the people of Permatang Pauh to know the type of leader they want - between a person who merely talks and one who really works for them. Eh??? Mana cari ah (Where to find)???
During the leadership of Tun Dr. Mahathir, we could see progress and leaders actually have to lift at least one if not two fingers and work for the Rakyat. Now under DSAAB, the minister and leaders that we're getting are the ones who talk just as much or maybe more crap and definately doesn't work at all. Well, they don't have to anymore la cause they just lost all their Kuching seats in the last state election.....Hahaha!!!
p/s : To the editor of Borneo Post - You can actually save paper and our priceless rainforest by stopping the publishing of the comic pages. The comments from our ministers whether BN or opposition are hillarious enough already. Thanks.....

Crimes rampant in Kuching on Saturday nights...
As the weekend comes, I am sure most of us after a long week of work, stress and pressure would just like to spend some time with the family by going out for dinner or meet up with some friends for a drink or two just to unwind and relax.
Nowadays though, that might be the last thing you'd wanna do. Might be smarter and safer just to stay home and watch the Premier League or the Olympics on Astro as crime rate has been on a high lately in Kuching especially on Saturday nights.
'Hungry Ghost Month' ba so maybe it brings out the 'Hantu' in some people. Here is a recap of what happen last Saturday night.....
Around 9.30pm in Matang, a youth along with a few friends smash up a stall selling 'ayam panggang' for no apparent reason. The poor 'ayam panggang' seller was shocked at the attack on his stall as he did not owe money and had no prior misunderstandings with the trouble making youth. But the youth I'm sure didn't expect the other hawkers around the area to gang up and nab him. The youth's other friends upon seeing this fled and the youth got what he deserved, a beating of his life. To the hawkers, well done!!! Hope you guys did bashed him up real good.....Cheers!!!
Around about the same time in front of a row of shophouses at Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman, a man along with his girlfriend was robbed at knife point. The man lost his gold necklace, wallet and handphone to the theives. The victim and his girlfriend should consider themselves lucky as they were not harmed.
Later at around 10pm around Hilton Hotel, four men brandishing a machete forced a tourist from Perak to hand over his digital camera and other valuables. The victim tried to put up a fight and seeing an attempt to slash him, the victim leaped off the 30 feet incline in front of the hotel's multi-storey carpark and landed on the ground below. Security guards from the hotel upon hearing the commotion rushed to the victim's aid prompting the robbers to flee the scene. Slightly hurt and dazed from the leap, the victim managed still to walk on his own into the police station to lodge his report.
At 1.30am somewhere around the vicinity of Bukit Mata Kuching, a manager of a nightspot was seriously injured when he was bashed up with motorcycle helmets by a group of more than ten youths after he had tried to reprimand them for drinking without paying. I always thought that non-paying customers are the ones courting trouble and not the other way around. Even with the arrival of the Police MPV unit, the youth still didn't stop and continued to bash the manager. Only till one police officer had no choice and had to discharge a shot into the air that the youths stopped, all except for one. As the rest of his friends made their escape the oblivious one still continued his attack on the manager and was subdued and taken into custody by the police.
The last reported crime spree for the night happened at 2.45am at the 3rd Mile Central Park area. Four friends who just exited a nightspot encountered 'a lot' of men armed with various offensive weapons. As the group of men started to charge at them, the four friends quickly got into their vehicle. Upon trying to flee the on coming attackers, their vehicle knocked into a Perodua Kancil as they were reversing out of the parking area. As the vehicle was damaged in their attempted escape, they decide to flee on foot. Luckily the all the four friends managed to escape unscathed but unfortunately not for their vehicle. As they group of men seeing that they could not catch up anymore, they decided to vent their anger on the poor Inokom Atos. The four friends proceeded to lodge a report at the Simpang Tiga police station and claimed that they did not know the attackers or the motive behind the attack.....
All this happened between 9.30pm to 2.45am and these were only the ones that were reported. What about those that weren't. Who knows the exact number of crime cases that occured during that one night alone or past Saturday nights.
With the spike in crime in the city, what measures are the authorities taking to ensure the safety of the locals and tourists?!!
I'm sure they are doing all they can but maybe it's time for the public to contribute as well. Next time you encounter a crime in progress please don't just turn your backs, make an effort to call the relevant authorities. If we act fast enough the authorities might arrive on the scene faster and catch these good for nothing, low life scums!!!
